On-Demand Photo Assistant and Photographers

- Pay: Starting at $15/hr and up, depending on experience. (Contract 1099)
- Workload: On-Demand (from 1 to 10 or more assignments per month)
- Hours: Most days starting from 2:00PM-2:30, ending around 6:00PM-7:00PM. This is typical, but odd hours do come up, but have advance notice.
The Opportunities:
OHANA Studios is seeking both several experienced photographers and several photography assistants to join our on-demand team. These is a 1099 independent contractor positions designed to support our core staff during peak periods. While the bulk of our work is sports portraits, we also handle yearbook sessions, senior portraits, headshots, real estate, events and more. We are looking for individuals who can be loyal to the OHANA brand; for the right candidates, this on-demand role has the potential to evolve into a full-time position in the future.
Open Positions:
Photographer
Non-Entry level. While we provide training on the “OHANA Studios Way,” we require candidates with established photography experience.
- Manual Proficiency: You should be comfortable shooting in Manual Mode.
- Modern Systems: Experience with Nikon Mirrorless is a major plus, but proficiency with any modern professional camera platform is required.
- Communication Skills: Being able to communicate to a photo subject is crucial. Being able to stay cheerful in stressful situations is a must.
- Action Skills: While we currently do very little action photography, proven skill in action/candid sports is a strong perk as we look to expand these services.
- Lighting: We will provide comprehensive training on Off-Camera Flash (OCF) during our mandatory training day.
Schedule Details
- Assignment Length: Minimum of 3 hours per job. Larger assignments can range from 6–10+ hours. Most days starting from 2:00PM-2:30, ending around 6:00PM-7:00PM. This is typical, but different schedules do occur, but have advance notice.
- Frequency: Supplemental work; expect 1 to 10 or more jobs per month depending on our booking volume.
- Mandatory Training: All contractors must attend our paid training day on June 27th.
Logistics & Travel
- Base Area: Most assignments are within the Upstate (Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Pickens Counties).
- Regional Travel: Must be open to traveling outside the Upstate for specific projects (e.g., college media days).
- Reimbursement: Mileage/travel costs are reimbursed for any assignments outside of our standard 35-mile radius.
- Gear Provided: We provide all gear.
- No Editing: This is a “Shoot & Drop” role. We handle all post-production.
Expectations
- Physical Work: Be able to lift at least 30lbs equipment out of a vehicle, and back in. Be able to be on your feet for long periods of time, and also sitting low to the ground, or on the ground while photographing
- Problem Solvers: You must be a figure-it-out kind of person who stays calm and professional under high-stress, fast-paced conditions.
- Communication & Integrity: Must be cheerful and able to direct subjects ranging from toddlers to adults.
- Non-Compete: All hires must sign a non-compete agreement.
- Requirements: Reliable transportation and an active way to communicate (phone/email) are mandatory. Being on time is crucial.
